Loft conversions across London
Your loft is probably the biggest unused space in your home. A well-planned conversion can give you an extra bedroom, an en suite, a home office or a playroom, without giving up any of your garden.
Types of loft conversion we build
- Rooflight conversionsThe simplest option. Rooflight windows are fitted into the existing roof slope, with no major change to the roof shape. Best suited to lofts that already have good headroom.
- Dormer conversionsA box-shaped extension built out from the roof slope, usually at the back, giving you much more full-height floor space. The most common choice for adding a bedroom and bathroom.
- Hip-to-gable conversionsFor semi-detached and end-of-terrace houses with a sloping (hipped) side roof. The side slope is built up into a vertical gable wall, making the loft much bigger. Often combined with a rear dormer.
Is my loft suitable?
The main things we look at are the head height under the ridge, the pitch of the roof, the type of roof structure, and where the new staircase can go. The best way to know is for us to have a look.
Planning, building regulations and fire safety
Many loft conversions on houses can be done under permitted development, which means you do not need a full planning application, as long as the design stays within certain limits. Some do need planning permission, for example if the house is in a conservation area, if the council has removed permitted development rights, or if the design goes beyond the limits. Flats and maisonettes do not have these rights.
